A free eye check-up and cataract surgery camp was held in Makani at the Vitthal–Rukmini Mandir sabha-mandap. Organized by Jnanjyoti Social Multipurpose Organization (Umarga) in partnership with GK. Foundation (Pune), the camp screened a total of 363 patients. Of these, 16 patients were identified as needing cataract surgery and will receive the procedure free of charge.
The camp was inaugurated under the guidance of Shyam Chaitanya Maharaj and conducted under the leadership of the organization’s president Akanksha Chougule. The event aimed to bring essential eye care to rural residents who otherwise face barriers to specialist treatment.
Local dignitaries and community leaders attended the programme, including Sarpanch Swati Sathe, Up-Sarpanch Fulchand Ambore, Jagnath Patil, Sardar Mujawar, and other village representatives. The medical team — led by ophthalmologists including Dr. Rajukhan Sayyad and Dr. Shashikant Vivare — examined patients and planned the follow-up surgeries.
The screening camp provided vision tests, clinical evaluation and guidance for those needing surgery. Arrangements have been made for the identified patients to receive free cataract operations, ensuring that rural patients gain access to sight-restoring treatment without financial burden.
